How do I apply for Medicare?

You can file for Medicare online when you file for retirement or disability. You also can file for just Medicare if you do not wish to start receiving your retirement benefits. Use this link:

https://secure.ssa.gov/iCLM/rib .

If you do not wish to apply online you can make an appointment by calling 1-800-772-1213. People who are deaf or hard of hearing may call the TTY number, 1-800-325-0778, between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. on business days.

BEWARE of SCAMS! Bernie Madoff`s ponzi scheme was a classic, and HUGE, Affinity Fraud!

Avoid Affinity Fraud investment scams that target particular groups, such as seniors. Affinity fraud refers to investment scams that prey upon members of identifiable groups, such as religious or ethnic communities, the elderly, or professional groups. The fraudsters who promote affinity scams frequently are - or pretend to be - members of the group.

They often enlist respected community or religious leaders from within the group to spread the word about the scheme, by convincing those people that a fraudulent investment is legitimate and worthwhile. Many times, those leaders become unwitting victims of the fraudster`s ruse.

Madoff`s targets were often the super rich, east coast Jewish business elite and members of the most expensive country clubs. People who should have known better, but they didn`t. Madoff always underplayed his hand and people begged him to manage their money!
